Do we choose the music for the film?
It’s important to me that my work is professional and freely sharable by my clients with friends and family for decades to come. To that end, I use music that I can license from professional libraries of original music designed for use in films such as the ones we will make together. This ensures that platforms such as Vimeo and Instagram will not take down the films, and keeps everything above board. I have been using these libraries for the past couple of years, so the music you hear in my more recent work is representative of what you can expect. If you’d like input on choosing this music, I’m happy to send you a link to the libraries and you can pick out a piece that you love. There’s a lot to choose from!
How do we receive the film?
The short films are uploaded to Vimeo and set in a post on my site, which you can link to and share with your friends. The ceremony and speeches will be uploaded to a separate, password-protected video to retain more privacy for speeches. You can use the Vimeo app on your phone or tablet to keep this film offline so you can view it any time, and take it with you to show colleagues and loved ones. The film can also be downloaded at any time using a private link you will receive by email, so you can decide who can and can’t download the film. I always recommend to my couples that they download the full original films for their own archive. Both the film, and the ceremony and speeches are downloadable in this way.
Do I retain copyright of the film?
You are welcome to make copies of your film for your own use, and share it anywhere you like. For commercial purposes, I retain the rights to my work, but this is a technicality that allows me to protect my business should another commercial entity seek to use my footage without permission. Sadly, this does happen. Once you have your film, you can copy it and archive as you see fit.
Can you use a drone?
I would love to use a drone in Malcesine. Sadly. this isn't practically possible to do legally. I am told that there are local by-laws that prohibit drones being used in the area, and as a professional who respects the town's wishes, I will obey that. Sadly, some enthusiasts have damaged buildings in the past using drones, and the local authority is understandably keen to preserve this beautiful place. I am actively investigating my options in this area, but right now it's not something I can offer. I understand some footage is available online over the castle, but often this footage has been captured without following local laws, or is captured by amateurs who do not have the same restrictions as a commercial drone would have.
When I offer drone coverage in the UK, it is provided by a second professional on the day, as it needs the attention of an operator. I want to be with you, the couple, capturing the day, and I need someone else to be unpacking and deploying the drone safely etc.
